Twitch Announces Record-Breaking Growth for Live Streamed Video Game Content and Audience

The world’s leading video platform and community for gamers now garners more than 28 million monthly unique viewers with integration into the world’s most popular games

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Twitch, the world’s leading video platform and community for gamers, today announced record-breaking growth in audience size, content creators and audience engagement. In February 2013, more than 600,000 unique Twitch video broadcasters attracted in excess of 28 million unique viewers. Each of those viewers watched, on average, more than 1.5 hours of video per day.

“Twitch launched in June of 2011 and our growth ever since has exceeded even my expectations, which were not small,” said Emmett Shear, Twitch CEO. “A year and a half later, the community of broadcasters and viewers has multiplied hundreds of percent. Brands like Electronic Arts, Activision and Sony Online Entertainment have begun integrating Twitch directly into their products, charities have collectively raised more than three million dollars using Twitch as a platform, and conventions are now turning to Twitch as their exclusive streaming partner. We want to make broadcasting a standard piece of the gaming experience, and we’re starting to realize that goal.”

In the last six months Twitch has announced a steady drumbeat of integrations with the video game industry’s biggest brands including Electronic Arts, Activision, Sony Online Entertainment and others. Using the Twitch Broadcasting SDK, game developers are able to connect their games directly to Twitch, allowing players to broadcast their gameplay from within the game, with only a few clicks. This removes the barrier to broadcasting that previously existed, with no further hardware or software requirements.

“Twitch has become the go-to live video platform for the entire video game ecosystem,” said Matthew DiPietro, VP of Marketing, Twitch. “Our broadcaster base includes everybody from passionate individual gamers to large video game companies and organizations. eSports organizations, gaming media outlets, game developers, video game talk shows, conventions, charities and more all find a home on Twitch, with a passionate audience craving their content.”
