Contship Italia Group to Implement Navis SPARCS N4 at Five Terminals

TOS Migrations & Upgrades to be Handled by Navis-Certified Implementation Partner, DSP

OAKLAND, Calif.--()--Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation and the global technology standard for managing the movement of cargo through terminals, today announced that Contship Italia Group (CSI) group will implement Navis SPARCS N4 at its five terminals. Contship Italia Group, part of Eurokai, is the largest Italian terminal operator, handling more than 5.1 million TEUs in the Mediterranean region in 2012. DSP, Data and System Planning, a Navis Implementation Partner and IT services provider for ports and terminals, will lead the five terminal Navis SPARCS N4 implementation project.

By 2016, Contship Italia Group terminals will be using the industry’s most advanced terminal operating system (TOS), SPARCS N4, to drive increased optimization and efficiency with data analytics at the five terminals that make up Contship Italia Group: Cagliari International Container Terminal, La Spezia Container Terminal, Terminal Container Ravenna, Eurogate Tangier and Medcenter Container Terminal.

“Because of the long and successful partnership with Navis since 1998, Contship Italia Group has decided to move to SPARCS N4,” said Marco Simonetti, Vice President Maritime Terminals, Contship Italia Group. “This partnership has allowed our terminals to continuously improve and overcome the challenges associated with new giant tonnage. With the expertise of our people and the professional support of DSP, we will be able to meet the most challenging targets in yard utilization, resource optimization and process control with SPARCS N4.” Simonetti continued, “We’ll remain one step ahead of our competitors and stand ready to support our clients’ needs. For Contship Italia Group, SPARCS N4 represents the future of technology combined with the proven and successful business process design achieved previously with SPARCS 3.7.”

Founded in 1986 to infuse the use of technology in the container shipping industry, DSP has served as an official Navis implementation partner since 2009. DSP has helped terminals around the world to successfully install, run and maintain the SPARCS N4 TOS and SPARCS Advanced Application modules, including Prime Route, Expert Decking and Autostow. As part of the agreement, DSP will migrate Medcenter Container Terminal from Cosmos to SPARCS N4, as well as upgrade the four remaining Contship Italia Group sites from SPARCS 3.7 and in-house legacy systems. DSP will also provide all training, configuration, migration, project management, go-live assistance and other value-added services for Contship Italia Group.

“We consider ourselves to be a true extension of Navis’ expert services team and approach implementation projects as if we worked at the terminal ourselves,” said Marco Fehmer, General Manager, DSP. “Our extensive training with Navis has enabled us to consistently complete SPARCS N4 implementations that are on time and within budget. We look forward to working together at Contship Italia Group.”

“As a growing number of terminals move to SPARCS N4, our implementation partners will be essential in helping us to deliver the same levels of service and support that we provide to customers on-site,” said Bill Walsh, president and CEO, Navis. “DSP’s deep TOS implementation experience, combined with its extensive Navis training and product certifications, make it an ideal partner to carry out the Contship Italia Group multi-site migration and upgrade project.”

Navis’ Implementation Partner program allows organizations such as DSP to develop the product knowledge and implementation skills required to deploy SPARCS N4. “Our partners offer our customers viable options and alternatives when they look for qualified support in implementing SPARCS N4,” said Mike Medcalfe, Vice President, Global Services.

SPARCS N4 is Navis’ latest generation TOS, allowing customers the flexibility and scalability needed to run their operations - from a single terminal to multiple terminals spanning numerous geographic locations managed from one central location.
