eTeacher Group Adds Biblical Greek to Online Course Offerings

Leading Biblical Language Program Now includes Aramaic, Hebrew & Greek

JERUSALEM & TEL AVIV, Israel--()--eTeacher Group, in conjunction with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, today announced the introduction of biblical Greek courses to its growing curriculum of biblical languages for students around the world. The classroom work focuses on reading the New Testament and the Greek text of the Old Testament, known as the Septuagint.

“By mastering the basics of biblical Greek, people can start to comprehend the original meaning of the Bible without having to rely on translations,” said Judith Green, Academic Director at eTeacherBiblical.com. “Greek serves as the foundation of most Romance languages and speaks to the fundamentals behind the language of the Bible. It’s an exciting opportunity to not only understand the origins of many modern religions and languages at the same time.”

The new program builds upon eTeacher’s success in other biblical language instruction. Offering unique online access to biblical language instruction in several of the world’s oldest languages, eTeacher is enabling biblical study in Greek, Aramaic and Hebrew within the most modern of settings. eTeacher has already taught several thousand biblical language students from 100+ countries around the globe.

During this eight month online course, students will familiarize themselves with the Greek alphabet and its pronunciation, with elementary noun and verb paradigms and acquire a basic vocabulary of frequent words from the text. The only requirement is being over the age of 18 and having a working knowledge of English, the language of instruction.

Grammatical topics and vocabulary are illustrated by original verses from the gospels of Matthew and John and the book of Genesis. Special emphasis is paid to the close connection between the two Testaments, both linguistically and literally. These familiar passages were frequently illustrated by Christian and Jewish art of the medieval period and the Renaissance.

Courses are given live and online by certified teachers in small groups of 5-10 students live via video conferencing technology. Hebrew University, in collaboration with eTeacher, offers several courses for academic credit. In accordance with the University’s academic requirements, the accredited programs include obligatory attendance, paper submissions and examinations.

Students use their personal computer to log in to a virtual classroom and participate in a lesson. In order to fit today’s innovative technology environment, we have adapted advanced standardization by supporting tablets and smart phones as well as computers. The bi-directional interaction provides the immediacy, intimacy and effectiveness of a physical classroom, while providing the flexibility and comfort of study from home, office or preferred location.
