DMTF Standards Gain Global Recognition

ANSI and ISO adopt DMTF Platform and Web Services Management standards, further solidifying DMTF’s position as a leader in IT management

PORTLAND, Ore.--()--Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF), the organization bringing the IT industry together to collaborate on systems management standards development, validation, promotion and adoption, today announced that its Platform Management and Web Services Management standards have been adopted as national and international standards respectively.

The Platform Management standard was adopted by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the International Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS), while the Web Services Management standard was adopted by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). These achievements mark a significant step forward for the organization in enabling interoperable IT management standards worldwide.

“ANSI and ISO standardization are important benchmarks for many organizations and government bodies when determining which technologies to implement,” said Hemal Shah, DMTF VP of Technology. “Adoption and recognition of the Platform Management and Web Services Management standards by these organizations provide additional credibility, while increasing the accessibility of these solutions to IT managers.”

DMTF’s Platform Management standard provides a comprehensive, common architecture for improved communication between management subsystem components. Use of the standard allows hardware and software developers, equipment providers and device manufacturers to quickly and cost-effectively develop and deploy management subsystems. The Web Services Management specification addresses the cost and complexity of IT management by providing a common way for systems to access and exchange management information across the entire IT infrastructure. Deployments that support the specification enable managers in a variety of IT environments to access devices on their networks remotely. Both specifications provide sufficient efficiency and cost savings advantages for IT managers industry-wide.

With the increasing need for flexibility, availability and performance in today's organizations, standards-based management solutions for IT professionals are becoming progressively more important throughout the industry. The additional accreditation of ISO/IEC and ANSI/INCITS helps to ensure that products and solutions based on standards meet the necessary requirements and will perform adequately.

The Platform Management standard, ANSI INCITS 495-2012 can be purchased through the ANSI website at www.ansi.org or the INCITS website at www.incits.org. The Web Services Management standard, ISO/IEC 17963:2013 can be purchased through the ISO website at http://www.iso.org or the IEC website at http://www.iec.ch.
