Ultra Electronics Airport Systems at the Heart of the New Quito International Airport in Ecuador, Grand Opening Today

KANSAS CITY, Mo.--()--Ultra Electronics Airport Systems announced it has all systems integrated, tested and ready for today’s grand opening of the New Quito International Airport in Ecuador. Ultra’s suite of common use passenger processing and operational systems are at the heart of the completely new airport that started construction in 2006.

NQIA (IATA Code; UIO) will be Latin America’s newest, most modern international airport, with a capacity to handle more than 5 million passengers per year.

Ultra’s systems were delivered under a subcontract with Johnson Controls, Inc., as part of their overall responsibilities for network, security and building management systems. Corporacion Quiport S.A. are the owner/operators of NQIA under a 35-year concession agreement.

The new systems will provide airport and airline staff with accurate operational information to optimize passenger flow through the airport. NQIA will also enjoy reduced integration risks as new systems are introduced, as well as improved automation, utilization and flexibility of key airport resources.

“Ultra is very proud to continue our long relationship with Quiport,” stated Jim Houghton, Ultra’s Director of Business Development - Americas. “Our systems are very mature, stable and technically advanced for airport customers who value high performance and low cost of ownership.”

New Quito International Airport is situated on over 1,500 hectares, more than ten times the size of the existing airport, Mariscal Sucre International Airport, which will cease operations when the new airport opens. “Ultra’s common use passenger processing system has been very beneficial for us at MSIA since it was first implemented in 2004”, stated Andrew O’Brian, Quiport’s Vice President and Chief Operations Officer. “We are very pleased to continue this relationship that will enhance the travel experience of millions of air passengers in the Americas, and beyond.”
