SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ebates.com, the pioneer and leader in online cash back shopping, found that the most popular Valentine’s Day gifts are not flowers or chocolates, but rather clothing and accessories. This is according to the sales data gathered during Ebates’ 2012 Valentine’s Day sale. In addition to clothing and accessories, which accounted for 30% of the sales, Valentine’s Day gifts of travel (15%), consumer electronics (8%), and health and beauty products (8%) also ranked as the most purchased for online shoppers last year.
“Based on the shopping trends we’ve seen leading up to Valentine’s Day, we know it’s not just about romance anymore,” said Kevin H. Johnson, CEO of Performance Marketing Brands. “This has become a day for all families and loved ones to enjoy. Certainly, significant others are still important to buy for, but finding the right Valentine’s day gift now applies to everyone—whether your parent, grandmother, child, or friend. We want to help shoppers find great deals on gifts that bring a smile to any special Valentine’s face, no matter who they are.”
Ebates.com’s 2012 Valentine’s Day data also found that last year online shoppers in California spent more money on Valentine’s Day gifts than any other state in the country. Shoppers in the golden state spent an average of $134 dollars per transaction. New York came in second followed by Illinois, New Jersey, Florida, Texas, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and North Carolina. Arizona, nicknamed the “Valentine” state since its statehood on February 14, 1912, ranked at 19th place for its average spend of $93 per person. The state that spent the least on Valentine’s Day was Wyoming, followed by North Dakota and Idaho.
From January 25 to February 14, Valentine’s Day shoppers can receive up to 20% cash back on select retailers via Ebates. For more details on specific retailers participating in the special Valentine’s Day offer, visit Ebates.com.
