MAPLEWOOD, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Alan Beck feels like Christopher Columbus. Like Columbus, Beck is mapping out a new world. For over thirty years he has been on an expedition, traveling the globe, mapping out the most gay-welcoming locations and establishments—the best places to be one’s self.
“The Internet makes traveling easier, but false and liberally used labels can drive you in the wrong direction. What does gay-friendly even mean? I say less labels and more content--honest, rich and explored content open to feedback,” says the founder of Gayosphere.com who describes himself as part cartographer, part businessman and all gay.
Some locales are known for their gay and lesbian acceptance, but information on “gay-friendliness” outside the bigger cities is unreliable. Beck is changing that with Gayosphere.com, a travel resource site that provides reliable, unbiased, honest reviews of towns where same sex couples and gay singles can feel welcome.
“Many articles promote ‘gay-friendly’ towns. But I often find that these towns are not at all as represented, so I created my own UNBIASED review site,” says Beck.
Gayosphere.com provides overviews of more than 100 towns in the U.S., Canada and other select countries. Each profile contains recommendations for gay-welcoming places to stay, eat, shop, party and experience local culture.
“I have personally visited all the places on our site—every locale, hotel, restaurant, club, bar, shop, spa and attraction,” says Beck. “If a place exhibits even the remotest bias, they don’t get included.”
Travelers can download maps pinpointing locations of recommended places. A list of frequently updated gay resources and upcoming events in each locale is also included.
Beck continues to build the site, adding content and photos for a more in-depth look at each location, exclusive deals, booking engine and community aspect where users can share experiences, make recommendations and connect with fellow travelers.
