BURLINGTON, Mass. & LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nuance Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN) and Chrysler Group today announced that Nuance’s Dragon Drive automotive-grade voice platform for the connected car is part of Chrysler Group’s new Uconnect Access services. Uconnect Access provides 2013 Ram 1500 and SRT Viper owners a range of new services, including voice texting, and live and local connected search capabilities.
Uconnect Access takes advantage of Nuance’s embedded and connected natural language understanding voice technology to give drivers smarter and faster connectivity to people, information and content – in the car and in the cloud. Uconnect Access leverages Nuance’s cloud-based Dragon Drive Messaging service to let people send, receive and respond to text messages to all contacts in their phonebook. All incoming text messages can be read aloud with Nuance’s text-to-speech capabilities, and from there drivers can simply dictate a response back if needed. In fact, Uconnect Access from Chrysler Group is the first from a U.S. auto maker that introduces cloud-based, hands-free, voice-activated texting.
Dragon Drive makes searching for local business information and directions while behind the wheel faster and easier. Uconnect Access integrates Bing’s live and local search engine to find virtually any local business, such as restaurants, museums, spas, gas stations and more. Simply say, “Where is the best Italian restaurant,” and results are provided along with business information and ratings – and voice-enabled navigation to the chosen location. Dragon Drive also lets people speak navigation addresses naturally – so the house number, street and city can all be spoken in one breath.
“We want to provide our consumers with the ability to remain connected, yet focused on the road ahead. By integrating Nuance’s Dragon Drive voice capabilities, we can deliver a truly voice-enabled in-car experience that is smart, fast, accurate and reliable – and takes full advantage of both the cloud and on-board capabilities,” said Marios Zenios, Vice President of Uconnect Systems and Services, Chrysler Group.
“Consumers demand in-car connectivity and content, but it must be accessible in an intelligent and intuitive way as a natural extension of the infotainment system,” said Arnd Weil, vice president and general manager, automotive, Nuance Mobile. “Dragon Drive’s unique embedded-connected platform gives automakers like Chrysler the flexibility to deliver voice-enabled message dictation, content and information regardless of where it exists – in the car, on a device or in the cloud.”
