Banner Health Terminates Phoenix Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Lease at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center

Care to patients will continue uninterrupted as the two hospitals work on details of transition plan – Phoenix Children’s Hospital to consolidate care at its existing Level IIIC NICU

PHOENIX--()--Banner Health has decided to terminate the lease for the Phoenix Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) located within Banner Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. As a result of the lease termination, Phoenix Children’s Hospital will concentrate its NICU services at its existing Level IIIC NICU located at its main campus on East Thomas Road. Phoenix Children’s Hospital also provides comprehensive pediatric specialty support for Dignity Health Arizona, including the Level III NICU at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center.

Banner communicated its decision to terminate the Phoenix Children’s Hospital lease at Good Samaritan following a binding arbitration related to Phoenix Children Hospital’s strategic alignment with Dignity Health Arizona/St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. Phoenix Children’s Hospital entered into the strategic alignment with Dignity Health Arizona to consolidate and strengthen pediatric services in the Central Phoenix area.

Phoenix Children’s Hospital and Banner Health are currently working to ensure a smooth transition that keeps the needs of patients and their families, as well as NICU physicians and staff, at the forefront of our decisions. The impact on operations of both the NICU at Banner Good Samaritan as well as Phoenix Children’s Hospital main campus NICU is not expected to be material.
