ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ABQ Health Partners representatives met with New Mexico Attorney General King on November 5, 2012 to discuss our concerns over patients’ rights and the limited amount of time patients have to make important healthcare decisions. With the November 8, 2012 network change affecting thousands of Lovelace Health Plan members, we respectfully requested Attorney General King’s support in appealing for more time for open enrollment. We are thankful for the time Attorney General King spent speaking with us and his subsequent letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) Region VI Director Petty asking CMS to consider a formal extension for open enrollment.
Excerpt from November 6, 2012 Letter from Attorney General of New Mexico to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid –
As the Attorney General of New Mexico, I am requesting that CMS consider extending open enrollment through a special enrollment period of at least two more months in order to give New Mexico residents the opportunity to receive adequate information and make informed healthcare choices.
I believe that such an extension of the enrollment period would beneficially impact the consumers in New Mexico by giving them time to fully understand the insurance choices that are available to them and base their decisions on the best solutions for their individual needs.
