Vivint Saves Lives with the Wireless Medical Alert Pendant

  • Vivint Medical Alert Pendant Enables the Elderly and Those with Threatening Health Conditions to Remotely Transmit an Emergency Signal
  • Pendant Is Small and Lightweight and Can Transmit Emergency Signals Within 350-Foot Radius

PROVO, Utah--()--Vivint™, the largest home automation services company in North America, is safeguarding individuals with special medical needs and saving lives with the Vivint medical alert pendant.

The medical alert pendant enables the elderly and those with chronic health conditions to remotely transmit an emergency signal from any location within a 350-foot radius of their Vivint home automation system. When an alarm is triggered, Vivint’s central monitoring station employees act as first responders through a two-way panel to assess the medical emergency and dispatch emergency personnel as needed. The pendant is small and lightweight and can be placed in a shirt pocket or tucked away inside a purse. It can be mounted on a wristband, lanyard, or belt clip. Signals from the pendant are transmitted whether the system is armed or disarmed.

“The Vivint medical alert pendant brings an added level of assurance to the needs of the elderly and those living with serious medical conditions,” said Steve Dixon, vice president of operations at Vivint. “In many instances, the pendant has saved lives by providing an immediate response by emergency personnel.”

Yvette Demers, a widow living in New Castle, Del., credits her Vivint medical alert pendant with saving her life. It was 2:30 in the morning when Demers realized she couldn’t move her right arm or leg. Having been warned by her doctor of her high risk of suffering a stroke, she quickly grabbed her medical pendant and triggered it.

After an unsuccessful attempt at reaching Demers on the phone, Vivint alerted local emergency responders. Roughly three minutes elapsed from the time she activated the medical pendant to the time the ambulance arrived at her door. Demers noted that she received necessary medical help in time to avoid suffering any long-term effects from the stroke.

“The doctors told me that they were able to prevent a massive stroke because I made it to the hospital so quickly,” Demers said. “I always have my medical pendant with me. I keep it close when I’m sleeping and take it with me when I work in the yard. It’s definitely a blessing. I feel so much safer.”

Marcella Jones of Fort Worth, Texas, recalls how fast emergency personnel responded to her home after she fainted from a seizure. Shortly after installing her Vivint home automation system, Jones was talking with a friend on the telephone when she was overwhelmed by headache and nausea. Somewhere between hanging up the phone and passing out, she pushed Vivint's emergency button. The next thing Jones remembered was waking up to a Vivint operator talking to her over the two-way control panel.

“I don’t remember hitting the button, but I woke up to a voice on the intercom asking if I was okay,” Jones said. “The operator talked until I woke up and would not hang up until she was absolutely sure no one was in the house trying to hurt me. It was like having a rescue worker holding my hand until help arrived. I felt safe and knew I was going to be okay.”

Help arrived quickly, and Jones was transported to a local hospital. In the meantime, Vivint had notified Marcella’s husband, who was waiting for her when she arrived.

“We had the system for less than two weeks,” Jones says. “If it hadn’t been for Vivint, I don’t know what would have happened to me. I am so grateful for the immediate response and personal care I received.”
