Second Annual “Walk for Thomas” Planned for Sunday, October 28, 2012 to Raise Awareness for Neuroblastoma Research

CALGARY, Alberta--()--Last year, more than 450 people participated in the inaugural “Walk For Thomas,” an event to honor the memory of Thomas Mueller, the son of Phillip Mueller and Dianne Wilkins, CEO of Calgary-based digital marketing agency, Critical Mass, who passed away after a courageous fight against neuroblastoma. In conjunction with Peloton 65 (www.peloton65.com), a growing group of cyclists, family and friends united in the fight against neuroblastoma, the event raised nearly $10,000 for neuroblastoma research. This year, the Second Annual “Walk for Thomas” will take place on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at 9am MT at the Queen Elizabeth Elementary School in Calgary.

“We are committed to standing strong in the fight against neuroblastoma,” said Dianne Wilkins. “From lemonade stands, to epic journeys on bike across Canada, to hockey marathons, to bake sales, as well as numerous other efforts, the team remains united in this battle. The generous outpouring of support for last year’s walk inspires us to keep pushing forward to raise awareness and support research to find a cure,” Wilkins added.

All funds raised by the Peloton 65 efforts in the fight against neuroblastoma will be put directly and exclusively towards The Phage Display Project, an innovative project being co-led by Dr. Paul Beaudry at the University of Calgary and Dr. David Kaplan at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. The Phage Display Project, a partnership between the labs of Dr. Beaudry and Dr. Kaplan, will be using an innovative approach to identify and kill neuroblastoma cells while sparing normal cells in children.
