From the famed intersection of Sunset and Vine in Hollywood, California, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) will launch its ‘Vote Yes on B’ big rig tour—a groundbreaking two week tour of AHF’s specially-designed 70-foot long, 18 wheel ‘Vote Yes on B’ big rig truck which will stop in select cities, towns and events throughout Los Angles County over the next two weeks leading up to the November 6th election where Ballot Measure B, the so-called condoms in porn measure will be decided. The ballot measure, formally known as the Los Angeles County Safer Sex in the Adult Film Industry Act, will, “…require producers of adult films to obtain a public health permit from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health…and pay a permit fee…sufficient for necessary enforcement.”

At the events scheduled throughout Los Angeles over the next two weeks, organizers of the ‘Vote Yes on B’ big rig tour plan to hand out one million condoms.

By happenstance, the ‘Vote Yes on B’ big rig tour launch comes on the heels of two local L.A. newspapers editorializing against Measure B. “While we are disappointed in these two editorial endorsements opposing Measure B, neither was entirely unexpected,” said Ged Kenslea, Communications Director for AHF. “However, we are confident that voters in Los Angeles County will see the issue more clearly for what it actually does—improve safety by enhancing existing laws that already require condom use by adult performers with no enforcement costs to taxpayers. We also believe Angelenos, in a historic move, will vote in support of Measure B on November 6th to ensure current laws on condom use are enforced, as they should be.”

The ‘Vote Yes on B’ ballot measure, spearheaded by AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) and members of FAIR (‘For Adult Industry Responsibility’), comes after as many as 22 HIV infections believed to be tied to the adult film industry were reported in two outbreaks in Los Angeles since 2004, and amidst thousands of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) occurring annually among adult performers. The ballot measure also comes at a time when an outbreak of syphilis, a highly contagious, but curable STI, is roiling L.A.’s adult film industry and shut down the entire industry for several weeks earlier this summer.
