KANSAS CITY, Mo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Scout Investments, Inc. announced that it has launched the Scout Emerging Markets Fund (SEMFX). The Fund seeks to capitalize on the potentially superior growth prospects, the growing investment in emerging markets by developed world investors and the overall rising prosperity of emerging market nations.
“We use a long-term, disciplined investment approach and focus on high-quality, well-capitalized companies with sustainable competitive advantages and secular growth tailwinds,” said Mark Weber, lead portfolio manager for the Fund. “We will not compromise on a company’s financial strength, regardless of the growth potential,” Weber said.
The Fund’s objective is long-term growth of capital. It will invest in 35-50 companies that are expected to benefit from multi-year secular growth tailwinds, such as a rising middle class, increasing consumer and health care spending, infrastructure expansion, factory automation and expanding mobile phone usage.
“As active managers, we will look for company-specific opportunities and will not determine sector and country weightings by referring to a benchmark,” Weber said. “We exclude state-controlled enterprises, because we believe states’ interests often run counter to the interests of private investors.”
“The Scout Emerging Markets Fund complements our existing international and global funds and leverages the strong talent on our international investment team,” said Andy Iseman, chief executive officer of Scout Investments. “Representing a quarter of the world markets1, the emerging markets offer an attractive opportunity for growth and portfolio diversification,” Iseman said.

Diversification does not prevent loss or enhance returns.
Foreign investments present additional risks due to currency fluctuations, economic and political factors, government regulations, differences in accounting standards, reduced liquidity and other factors. Investments in emerging markets, foreign currency exchange contracts, and a focus on particular countries, regions, industries, sectors or types of investments may involve greater risks. Small and mid cap stocks are more susceptible to market volatility due to risks such as lack of management experience, product diversification, financial resources, competitive strength, and liquidity.
The Fund may, at times, experience higher-than-average portfolio turnover which may generate significant taxable gains and increased trading expenses which in turn may lower the Fund’s return.
