LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Charity organisation Working Families has presented Northern Trust (Nasdaq:NTRS), the Best for Flexible Working Award and listed the corporation as one of the 30 best employers for working families in the UK.
The Working Families Benchmark and Awards is the definitive list of employers ensuring the best quality of work-life balance and career development for employees. Founded by Working Families, a not-for-profit organisation, in partnership with the Institute for Employment Studies –the UK’s leading independent centre for research and consultancy in employment, labour and human resources – the awards aim to recognise organisations across the UK doing the most to support the work-life balance needs of all their employees.
“Northern Trust is delighted to receive this award in recognition of our continuing commitment to supporting our employees’ individual career paths through our flexible working culture,” said Gillian Pembleton, head of human resources at Northern Trust in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). “We believe flexible working is a powerful endorsement which enables our employees to enjoy a balanced work life and generally leads to better performance and more effective working.”
Northern Trust supports an inclusive organisational culture and advocates workplace diversity through a number of initiatives in the UK including global employee networks which provide development and educational opportunities as well as mentoring, networking, training and events. Across EMEA during 2011, 86 percent of all flexible working requests submitted were approved, with 31 percent originating from male employees.
“Many congratulations to Northern Trust on winning the Best for Flexible Working Award,” said Sarah Jackson OBE, chief executive of Working Families. “The judges were impressed by Northern Trust’s embedded flexible culture and other winning policies including the high number of female senior managers, mandatory training for managers in flexibility and good retention, and training and individual career development based on individual needs and working arrangements.”
Earlier this year Northern Trust was named one of the U.K.’s “Top 50 Employers for Women” by The Times. It has also been named one of the “World's Most Admired Companies” by Fortune Magazine, one the “Top Companies for Executive Women” by the National Association for Female Executives (U.S.) and one of “100 Best Companies of 2011” by Working Mother Magazine.
