American InterContinental University Named a 2013 Top Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs Magazine

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.--()--American InterContinental University (AIU) was named a Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs Magazine in this year’s survey of higher education institutions. AIU has been named to the list every year since the inception of the special acknowledgement by G.I. Jobs Magazine.

The publication reviews more than 12,000 VA approved colleges and universities annually for the level of service they provide to military service members, veterans and their spouses. Of those schools, only the top 15 percent are selected for the Military Friendly list. The full list will be featured in the G.I. Jobs Guide to Military friendly Schools, which will be distributed in early October.

Each year the schools involved in the survey have been held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, selection criteria and weightings, according to G.I. Jobs Magazine. This year the survey included input from more than 3,000 student veterans about their experiences at institutions of higher education. The survey results were independently validated by Ernst & Young LLP.

“American InterContinental University is pleased to be named yet again to the Military Friendly Schools list,” said Richard Kennedy, Director of Military Relations at AIU. “Thousands of military personnel have selected AIU for their college educations. We are currently educating U.S. military students in every state and many foreign countries through the university’s award-winning online Virtual Campus.”

“AIU is one of the few schools in America that has a training program developed in house that teaches staff and faculty about the unique concerns and needs of military students. This program, called ‘The Person Inside the Uniform,’ goes a long way to inculcate our employees with a real sense of military empathy,” Kennedy said.

AIU’s understanding of military students is evident in everything from its online military club with more than 7,000 members to its participation in graduation ceremonies, education fairs, transition assistance presentations and other events at military bases all over the U.S.
