DirectPhotonics Signs Exclusive Patent License Agreement With Fraunhofer CLT

BERLIN--()--DirectPhotonics Industries GmbH, a cutting edge provider of ultra-high brightness direct diode laser solutions for material processing, announced today it has signed an exclusive worldwide patent license agreement with Fraunhofer-Center for Laser Technology CLT, Plymouth, Michigan, and a non-exclusive worldwide patent license agreement with Fraunhofer-Institute for Laser Technology ILT, Aachen, Germany, to develop, manufacture and commercialize Fraunhofer’s unique building block design, based on optically stacked high power single emitters, providing the highest direct diode laser brightness available today. The patents exclusively licensed under this agreement include U.S. Patent Numbers; 7,751,458 and 8,213,479, and non-exclusive US Patent Number 6,124,973/DE 197 80 124 B4.

“We’re excited about the new product possibilities presented in this intellectual property. This patent suite has important technology implications since it enables, for the first time ever, the use of direct high power laser diodes for materials processing applications, eliminating the need of conventional laser resonators,” said Wolfgang Gries, DirectPhotonics’s Founder and CEO.

Prof. Dr. Reinhart Poprawe, Director of the Fraunhofer-Institute for Laser Technology ILT, Aachen, Germany said: “DirectPhotonics technology aims to significantly improve the brightness of diode lasers at high power levels of several hundreds to multi-kilowatt output power. The core technologies are based on patented diode modules and dense spectral combining, which are both identified by our Institute as the most promising approaches, to improve the brightness of diode lasers to those of other industrial lasers.”
