CSC Opens Six Applicant Service Centers in Brazil for U.S. Department of State

FALLS CHURCH, Va.--()--CSC (NYSE: CSC) today announced the opening of six applicant service centers (ASC) in five cities in Brazil under a task order from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs. Through this work, CSC is launching a streamlined visa service for Brazilians wishing to travel to the United States.

“Since building our first applicant service center in Mexico, CSC has established more than 40 centers around the globe that provide a range of services,” said Mike Gaffney, president of CSC’s North American Public Sector Civil Group. “Our global operations team uses industry best practices to provide visa services for the Department of State in Brazil and other Latin American countries.”

The task order, awarded during CSC’s second quarter of fiscal year 2012, has a two-year base period and four option years, bringing the estimated total value to $147 million. It was awarded under the Global Support Strategy for Overseas Consular Services indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract that CSC won in February 2010.

For all six ASCs, located in Brasilia, Belo Horizonte, Recife, Rio de Janeiro and two in Sao Paulo, CSC will collect fingerprints and photographs from visa applicants before they visit a U.S. embassy or consulate for an interview. The visa service also includes a self-service website and call center where applicants can obtain information and schedule their appointments at an ASC or consulate. This system provides a convenient process for visa applicants to follow and comes at no additional cost to the applicants.

Travel to the United States from Brazil has increased in recent years, according to the U.S. Travel Association, whose International Visitor Information System listed more than 892,000 arrivals from Brazil in 2009. In January 2012, President Obama issued an Executive Order to increase nonimmigrant visa processing capacity in Brazil as well as other priority countries.
