PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Hortonworks, a leading commercial vendor promoting the innovation, development and support of Apache Hadoop, today announced that two of its co-founders, Arun Murthy and Mahadev Konar, will each be presenting at the OSCON 2012 conference, being held July 16 through 20 in Portland, Ore. Murthy and Konar will address topical subjects such as the much anticipated Apache Hadoop 0.23 framework and the versatile Apache ZooKeeper.
In Murthy’s presentation, “Apache Hadoop — The Future is Now,” he will discuss the upcoming release of Apache Hadoop 0.23, which marks the first major industry release of Apache Hadoop since 2009. The session will highlight key framework enhancements related to HDFS and MapReduce and further speak to what these enhancements mean to the industry as a whole.

Konar’s presentation, entitled “Apache ZooKeeper in Action,” will explore the many applications and flexibility of the service and its features. His session will serve as a review of ZooKeeper, including use case examples. Konar’s presentation will also give insight to the future of Apache ZooKeeper, taking a look at its roadmap. Apache ZooKeeper is an effort to develop and maintain an open-source server which enables highly reliable distributed coordination.

About the Speakers
Arun Murthy is vice president, Apache Hadoop at the Apache Software Foundation (i.e., Chair of the Apache Hadoop PMC) and has been a full-time contributor to Hadoop since the project’s inception in 2006. He is also the lead of the MapReduce project and has focused on building NextGen MapReduce (YARN). Prior to co-founding Hortonworks, Murthy was responsible for all MapReduce code and configuration deployed across the 42,000+ servers at Yahoo!. In essence, he was responsible for running Apache Hadoop’s MapReduce as a service for Yahoo!. In addition, he jointly holds the current world sorting record using Apache Hadoop.
Mahadev Konar is a core contributor and PMC member of Apache Hadoop and ZooKeeper. Prior to co-founding Hortonworks, Konar spent more than five years at Yahoo! working on Hadoop technologies. He holds a master’s and bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from SUNY Stony Brook and IIT Bombay (India) respectively.
