MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Two weeks ago it was a new logistics campus in the Twin Cities; this week, Murphy Warehouse Company, one of the Upper Midwest’s largest asset-based logistics companies, sets its sights on the Kansas City area.
Murphy Warehouse has leased a 50,000 square-foot logistics facility at 1240 Quebec St. in North Kansas City, Mo. The move represents the logistics company’s first expansion beyond the Twin Cities market since its founding in 1904.
The new facility in North Kansas City follows the June 12 purchase of a 350,000 square-foot logistics campus in Eagan, Minn. Together, these new logistics sites represent a 10 percent increase in square footage for Murphy Warehouse.
“We’ve worked hard as a company to be able to grow our business at this time,” said Richard Murphy, Jr., president and CEO of Murphy Warehouse and fourth-generation business leader. “This expansion will allow us to serve existing customers with a presence in the Kansas City area and reach new customers.”
Initially the new facility will serve customers in the apparel recycling, food and telecommunications industries throughout Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska. But Murphy sees more growth possibilities, adding that the company expects to expand the new facility to 135,000 square feet by year-end. Twelve employees will be hired to manage the facility.
Murphy Warehouse is considering upgrades to the North Kansas City logistics site, including a connection to rail access – a common feature among the company’s Minnesota-based logistics campuses.
“The new logistics sites in the Twin Cities and Kansas City are located in areas that give Murphy Warehouse strong growth potential, and with freeway access and potential rail connections, new and existing customers will benefit as well,” said Brad Bohlman, senior vice president of Colliers International and a long-time advisor to Murphy Warehouse.
