Molina Healthcare Names New Presidents for Michigan and Texas

LONG BEACH, Calif.--()--Molina Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE:MOH) announced today that Craig Bass has been named president of its subsidiary, Molina Healthcare of Texas, and that Stephen Harris will replace Bass as president of Molina Healthcare of Michigan. Harris was previously president of Molina Healthcare of Wisconsin.

“We are pleased to have been able to recruit not one, but two strong leaders from within the Molina Healthcare family to oversee our health plan operations in Texas and Michigan,” said Zarina Shockley-Sparling, senior vice president of health care operations for Molina Healthcare. “Both Craig and Stephen have already demonstrated tremendous success as presidents of our health plans in Michigan and Wisconsin, so we are looking forward to their future achievements in their new roles.”

As the new president of Molina Healthcare of Texas, Bass is responsible for the health plan’s operations, strategic expansion and financial results, as he was for the Michigan health plan for nearly two years. Prior to joining Molina, Bass served as a Medicaid regional vice president for Aetna covering the Southwestern region, which included Texas. Before that, he held a number of executive roles with Amerigroup, most recently as chief executive officer of Amerigroup’s plan in Georgia. Bass also has held leadership roles at Sentara Health Management in Virginia. Bass has more than 20 years of managed care experience in the health care industry, including starting and managing Medicaid health plans from initial market assessment to contract award, full implementation and ongoing management. He holds a B.S.P.H. degree in Health Care Administration from Indiana University in Bloomington, as well as both a Master of Business Administration degree and a Master of Hospital and Health Care Administration degree from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

Harris has been with Molina Healthcare since 2009, having worked on various market expansion and business development initiatives for Molina’s health plans in Missouri, Texas and Illinois before he was appointed president of the Wisconsin health plan in 2010. With more than 10 years of experience in Medicaid managed care and Medicare Special Needs Plans, Harris is now responsible for Molina Healthcare of Michigan’s operations as well as the implementation and execution of various strategic initiatives. He is also responsible for the plan’s financial efficiency, regulatory compliance and NCQA accreditation. Originally from Detroit, Harris worked both as a Certified Public Accountant and later as a consultant for Deloitte. From 2002 through 2009, he worked a dual role as both the chief financial officer at United American Healthcare Corp. and its 110,000-member Medicaid managed care subsidiary serving Memphis and Western Tennessee. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from Michigan State University, and his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
