DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/2mmdjr/greece_telecommuni) has announced the addition of the "Greece Telecommunications Report Q3 2012" report to their offering.
The Q312 update to BMI's Greece Telecommunications Report provides revised forecasts for the country's mobile, broadband and fixed-line sectors. The latest Q411/YE2011 data from the principal operators and the national regulatory authority have been used to guide and shape these forecasts. We also draw on BMI's latest economic and political risk data when forecasting for the telecoms market given the negative impact on consumer spending created by the country's exposure to the widening sovereign debt crisis.
Vodafone failed to reach an agreement to acquire WIND Hellas from its creditors. No official reason was given for the collapse of the deal, but it seems likely that Vodafone - which is exposed to mounting competitive and economic pressures in other mature markets across Europe - considered the acquisition to be too risky at this time. The company is investing in expanding its 3G network with HSPA technology, yet must be aware that the state could push through a sale of much-needed 4G spectrum at any time in pursuit of debt-lightening finance.
Greece is not yet ready for 4G, though our latest data show that the number of registered 3G subscriptions grew well in 2011. WIND announced its 2011 results in Q112, the first data to have been disclosed since Q310; WIND saw negligible subscriber and ARPU growth in 2011, contrary to our previous estimates. This has dragged down the total mobile user base and our forecasts have been realigned to take account of this. We foresee mobile subscriber numbers growing from 15.584mn in 2011 to 15.662mn by the end of 2012 and to 16.336mn by 2016.
