Growing Up Fast: AmazonLocal Celebrates First Birthday with Sweepstakes

Customers can update Deal Preferences for a chance to win a $1,000 Amazon.com Gift Card

SEATTLE--()--Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) today announced that AmazonLocal, a website offering customers savings from select businesses in their neighborhood and nationwide, is celebrating its first birthday by giving away $5,000 in Amazon.com Gift Cards.

From June 1-15, 2012, customers can enter for a chance to win one of five $1,000 Amazon.com Gift Cards in the AmazonLocal Birthday Sweepstakes* by signing in at AmazonLocal.com and updating one Deal Preference at https://local.amazon.com/account/preferences to improve their email offers. Customers can also be automatically entered into the sweepstakes by updating a Deal Preference directly on a deal page at AmazonLocal.com.

AmazonLocal Deal Preferences, which launched on April 26, 2012, lets customers decide what kinds of deals they want to receive by email -- from Restaurants and Travel to Shopping and Health & Beauty. To date, the most-preferred category is “American Restaurants” and the least-preferred is “Weight Loss.”

“We launched AmazonLocal a year ago for customers in Boise, upholding Amazon’s long-held tradition of delivering relevant products to customers, and today, we’re providing deals to AmazonLocal customers in 109 regions across the United States,” said Mike George, president of AmazonLocal. “We’re growing up fast, and we’re grateful to our customers for their support during the first year. In the year ahead, we look forward to providing customers with more one-of-a-kind deals and fun new promotions like our birthday sweepstakes.”

As part of the first-birthday celebration, customers in Boise, Idaho, AmazonLocal’s launch region, will be treated to a $1 deal for $5 of ice cream, milk shakes and more. Goody’s Soda Fountain in Boise will offer customers the celebratory deal at AmazonLocal starting on June 2, exactly one year after it offered its first deal at AmazonLocal.

Since its launch in June 2011, AmazonLocal has expanded rapidly across the country, opening in its 100th region after only 10 months. The service is now available to customers in 109 regions in 29 states, including the top 15 U.S. cities by population. Kindle 3G and Kindle Touch customers across the United States also are able to receive AmazonLocal offers on their devices. On average, AmazonLocal has saved customers 65 percent off list prices in 2012.
