SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARUN) today announced that Prince George’s Community College has deployed a new 802.11n wireless network based on the Aruba Mobile Virtual Enterprise (MOVE) architecture. The Aruba network was selected based on the company’s vision as a mobility leader capable of rightsizing the College’s entire indoor, outdoor and remote wireless network. Relying heavily on Aruba’s AirWave monitoring capabilities, the College’s Technology Services team can now remotely examine all network traffic, devices, APs and controllers.
“Our faculty was demanding more wireless capabilities in the classroom. Apple demonstrated to the nursing faculty all of the incredible student tools available for iPads, iPods and iPhones. We needed to move to a truly cutting edge solution to deliver digital content across the campus. Our students now have the capability at all our locations to access rich digital content via our wireless network,” said Manuel Arrington, director of network services at Prince George’s Community College. “Making the switch to Aruba was so much more than a speed and coverage upgrade; we now work with a true mobility leader with the vision and plan to future-proof our institution for years to come.”
Located in Largo, Maryland, Prince George's Community College is a comprehensive public, post-secondary institution that provides high quality academic instruction, workforce development and continuing education to the citizens of Prince George's County and surrounding areas. With approximately 40,000 students and 2,000 staff and faculty, the College’s Technology Services area has partnered with Aruba to rightsize its mobility infrastructure with a wide assortment of Aruba AP-105, AP-124 and AP-125 access points as well as M3 controller modules. In addition, the College looks forward to providing campus guest access by using Aruba’s Amigopod solution and after some very successful trials, the Technology Services staff will be outfitting itself with Aruba RAP-5 remote access points, described by Arrington as “one of the most significant IT remote access devices that you can get from any manufacturer.”
In addition to iOS devices, Prince George’s Community College felt the impact from the boom in Kindle Fire purchases by students, staff and faculty over the 2011 holiday season and was able to monitor and control new device expansion with Aruba’s AirWave. Netbooks are also trending upwards in growth at the College, as are traditional laptops with a bit of a preference shown for Apple products. With an increase in wireless capabilities and wireless devices all running at 802.11n speeds, students are starting to congregate around power sources as opposed to traditional meeting areas for work and play. This is a concern for Arrington as the College strives to stay nimble to provide the best experience for students.
“Prince George’s Community College has taken a strong lead in ensuring that its students are ready for the real-world when they graduate,” said Robert Fenstermacher, director of educational solutions marketing for Aruba. “With enterprises increasingly moving toward mobile as their primary access networks, and using mobile devices much more often, enabling this kind of experience is critical for the next generation workforce.”
