LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--International ICT services provider, Getronics, is today announcing it will provide outsourced IT support for Subsea 7, the global seabed-to-surface engineering, construction and services contractor to the offshore energy industry. The new deal follows a period of consultation following the merger of Acergy and Subsea 7 in 2011 with the new business having to decide on the optimum approach between two opposing support models already in practice. Acergy has traditionally managed its IT in-house whilst Subsea 7 outsourced the core of its IT maintenance and support with Getronics. With the business doubling in size thanks to the merger so too have the requirements and expertise needed. The sheer scale of the new company, combined with the proven technical capabilities, scalability and global reach that Getronics offered, convinced Subsea 7 to opt for an outsourced model.
The new solution will see Getronics extend its existing range of IT support services with the legacy Subsea 7 business across the newly merged company with an increase from 3,500 users to 8,000. The new solution includes the addition of a global IT service desk, based in Glasgow, which pools together previous disparate lines of IT support and third-party relationships to enable a single point of contact for the newly formed Subsea 7. IT requests can range from the everyday support and maintenance, through to the more complex such as providing remote support for Subsea 7’s global vessel fleet. With up to 60 PCs and a number of servers on each vessel – which could be anywhere in the world - providing IT support for these “mobile offices” requires highly skilled specialists to ensure high performance and access to mission critical applications at all times.
With collaboration critical for the newly formed business, Getronics has also already unified the business messaging applications onto a centrally hosted Microsoft 2010 platform and is currently implementing new sharing tools, such as Microsoft Lync, to enable greater communication across multiple sites. To further enhance collaboration Getronics has also been chosen to design and deploy a Microsoft Windows 7 environment, including consolidating the business into a single Active Directory. By standardising the common operating environment, Getronics is working with Subsea 7 to ensure the same user experience for every employee and enable greater integration across the business.
Anders From, Subsea 7 IT Director comments on the new partnership with Getronics: “Getronics’ expertise and specialist knowledge, particularly in regards to Microsoft technologies, is exceptionally strong. Creating a new IT platform during any company merger is no easy feat. Working with Getronics has enabled us to consolidate our business infrastructure, improve our capacity to respond to the needs of the business and also provide us with access to the latest technologies and industry leading expertise. Ultimately, with Getronics as our IT partner we’re able to focus on our business strategy, confident that our technology and IT support is in safe hands”
Mark Cook CEO at Getronics comments: “Working with a strong and dynamic business such as Subsea 7 over the past few years has proved very exciting. Matching their global scale with our own has enabled us to combine resources to offer a one-stop shop with our dedicated service desk in Glasgow. What’s more this agreement to essentially double our existing service is further evidence of the breadth and skills of Getronics to deliver global IT support leveraging a range of technologies and services. The inherent flexibility and scalability in the solution also means we can look forward to supporting Subsea 7 as the business continues to deliver on its ambitious growth strategy.”
