New Website Transforms Electronics Hobby Into Money-Making Opportunity

Club Jameco launches site for electronics designers to create projects and sell them as kits

BELMONT, Calif.--()--Jameco Electronics launches its new Club Jameco website (www.ClubJameco.com), where the electronics do-it-yourself (DIY) community can design electronics kits for hobbyists and earn a royalty.

Club Jameco is the first website to allow electronics designers to create an electronics project by identifying the components, writing step-by-step instructions and then sell their creations as an electronics kit. The website includes a “crowd source” feature that also lets members comment and contribute to the project while it is being designed.

“Electronics enthusiasts love to spend time at their workbench but sometimes have trouble making it a priority in their life,” said Greg Harris, Jameco Electronics Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Hopefully the opportunity to earn cash for their hobby will make electronics a higher priority.”

After the design is complete Club Jameco does the rest. Projects will be sourced, built, promoted and sold without any cost or risk to the Designer.

“We’ve seen a steady acceleration of demand for do-it-yourself products over the past several years -- from gateway projects for aspiring makers to the most advanced kits and tools for the experienced maker,” said Dan Woods, co-founder of MAKE and VP of Marketing and Business Development at TechShop. “Jameco’s new Club Jameco program will help to fuel a new wave of entrepreneurial makers who are innovating some of the most exciting kits and components for the booming DIY marketplace.”

Combining the pay-for-projects concept with crowd sourced participation creates a level of community engagement that few electronics hobbyists have experienced. Club Jameco membership is free. Register at ClubJameco.com.

Club Jameco is being launched at the Maker Faire May 19-20th at the San Mateo County Fairgrounds.
