Lake Nona and GE to develop innovative health and sustainability community

ORLANDO, Fla.--()--(NYSE: GE) Just east of Orlando’s international airport, the state-of-the-art community of Lake Nona is quickly developing with billions of dollars in new facilities, thousands of high-value jobs and modern neighborhoods.

The 7,000-acre master-planned Lake Nona community will provide healthy living and sustainability products for residents and businesses working with GE solutions.

"Our collaboration with GE brings a global perspective to Lake Nona that is helping us achieve a level of efficiency unmatched in the region,” said Lake Nona President Jim Zboril. “With the help of GE's emerging, innovative products, Lake Nona is quickly becoming a showplace for cutting-edge, sustainable design. GE’s products will play a key role in Lake Nona’s orientation for healthy living and sustainability, making a meaningful difference in energy use and health outcomes at Lake Nona.”

Energy Efficiency and Sustainability

Energy efficiency, sustainability and healthy living are top priorities at Lake Nona’s Laureate Park, a new 2,700-home neighborhood situated within walking distance to the fast-growing employment base of Lake Nona Medical City. With the help of GE, Lake Nona is integrating distinctive technologies and setting best-practice standards in the homebuilding industry within Laureate Park.

GE’s Homes Inspired by ecomagination program, coupled with the Masco Environments For Living Certified Green program, will provide reductions of at least 20 percent in energy, emissions and water usage in every Laureate Park home.

Among GE’s innovative products showcased at Laureate Park are its state-of-the-art Nucleus energy manager and the residential EV charging station, the WattStation™ Wall Mount. GE’s hybrid heat pump water heater, the GeoSpring™ Hybrid Water Heater, is also included in every home, saving households up to 62 percent annually on water heating costs. In addition Lake Nona’s use of energy-efficient GE LED roadway lighting, including decorative post top fixtures, will cut annual street lighting costs by up to 50 percent compared with metal halide lighting systems.

GE will make other energy-efficient products available at Lake Nona, including:

  • GE ENERGY STAR® qualified Appliances (refrigeration, laundry, water heater)
  • GE CFL Lighting
  • GE Smart Thermostat
  • GE Water Filtration
  • GE Load Centers, Circuit Breakers and Surge Protectors

Healthier Living

In addition to GE’s ecomagination products, the Lake Nona collaboration also integrates GE lighting and healthcare technologies in hospitals, clinics and homes throughout Lake Nona.

Among the products slated for inclusion in Lake Nona residences are:

  • GE’s Germicidal Lighting
  • GE’s InBody system, offering in-depth body composition analysis
  • GE’s microwave featuring a MyPlate button, which helps easily select foods from the new USDA guidelines for nutritious meal preparation

“Our relationship with GE exemplifies our vision of creating a collaborative environment that will inspire our residents,” said Thad Seymour, vice president of health and life sciences at Lake Nona. “The GE products will have a great impact on the health of our community.”

With more than $2 billion in active construction, millions of square feet of new educational, health and life science research facilities and thousands of new residences, Lake Nona has become a bright star during trying economic times.

“GE works to provide clean energy and affordable healthcare offerings,” said Luis Ramírez, CEO of GE Energy’s Industrial Solutions business. “Lake Nona is an opportunity to put those offerings and technology to work. We look forward to seeing this community grow.”
