SAN FRANCISCO--()--T.Y. Lin International (TYLI), a globally recognized full-service infrastructure consulting firm, announced today that Howard Sackel has been named Associate Vice President/New York Metro Unit Manager for New York City office operations. He will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of day to day operations, including financial accountability, project performance and delivery, quality services, client relations, and staff development, as well as working collaboratively with other offices across the country on transportation projects.

Sackel brings to TYLI more than 35 years of in-depth experience in the transportation field, particularly in project management of major rail and transit systems, including High Speed Rail Projects in the northeast corridor. He has overseen a wide range of “new starts” and expansion projects in the region and nationally that include aerial structures and tunnels with above grade and underground stations.

While serving recently as the top executive for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and Deputy Chief on the $8.7 billion Access to the Region’s Core (ARC) Trans Hudson Tunnel Project, Sackel managed project teams, coordinated closely with agency partner New Jersey Transit, conducted outreach to stakeholders, and represented the Port Authority in industry and public forums. As a consultant to the New York Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) he worked on several network expansion projects, and served as Deputy Chief Program Executive for the $7.6 billion East Side Access Project to construct three route miles of new tunnel connecting the Long Island Railroad to a new eight-track station below Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan.

“We are honored to have Howard join our team at TYLI,” said Robert Medina, Senior Vice President/East District Director. “He has extensive leadership experience serving both public sector and private clients in the transit industry, and is noted for his individualized approach to meeting a client’s specific needs.”

Sackel studied at the Pratt Institute School of Architecture in Brooklyn, NY. He is a member of the American Public Transportation Association, Capital Projects Subcommittee, as well as the TRB Rail Transit Committee.
