Immersion Showcases Touch Feedback Apps at CTIA 2012

Go hands on with new apps using Immersion’s Haptic SDK; Concept demos show next-gen user interface concepts

CTIA WIRELESS 2012

NEW ORLEANS--()--Immersion Corporation (Nasdaq:IMMR), a leading developer and licensor of touch feedback technology, is putting new apps designed with the company’s Haptic SDK on display alongside next gen UI concepts using high fidelity haptic technology. Immersion will demonstrate a wide range of apps and user interface concepts for haptics at its exhibition stand #4663.

Visitors to Immersion’s stand will have the opportunity to get their hands on a number of shipping handsets and tablets with Immersion’s embedded TouchSense® technology, concept handsets with next generation haptic technology, and the latest apps enabled with Immersion touch feedback.

Hands On with Tactile Apps

Since unveiling its developer platform last year, top tier developers have incorporated touch feedback as part of their mobile apps in intuitive new ways, including specialized effects in mobile games and alerts for navigation, communication and identification. By incorporating haptics, developers have used the sense of touch to create more realistic, engaging and informative user experiences. Immersion will showcase some of today’s most popular haptic-enabled apps, including:

  • Grand Theft Auto III: 10 Year Anniversary Edition by Rockstar Games: The critically acclaimed blockbuster Grand Theft Auto III comes to mobile devices, bringing life to the dark and seedy underworld of Liberty City. Grand Theft Auto III is available with Immersion haptics today on Google Play.
  • Sonic CD™ by Sega: Fight the past to save the future in this enhanced recreation of Sonic CD! Sonic CD is a blast on touch screen Android phones and tablets, and will be optimized for devices that feature Immersion haptic technology.
  • ViBe by Base 2 Applications: This year’s winner of the CTIA Brand Scrum Mobile App Challenge, Base 2 Applications developed some of their most popular apps using the Haptic SDK, including ViBE, custom vibrations for incoming calls and text messages. Think ringtones but with vibrations! You can experience ViBe in the Immersion stand, or at Base 2 Applications’ booth #4473 or you can download the app from Google Play.

Next Generation Haptic Concepts

Also on display will be next-generation high fidelity haptic solutions that offer OEMs and Carriers unique and distinctive features based on Immersion’s TouchSense and Integrator software solutions. Demonstrations will include multimedia games, music and video enriched with haptic feedback, as well as ambient communications, which transmits information to the user subtly through the sense of touch, for more intuitive and informative phone interactions.

Games, Giveaways and Haptic Candy

In addition to demonstrations, visitors will have an opportunity to pick up some “haptic” candy (can you guess what kind?) and win prizes including gift cards, handsets and tablets, awarded daily at the Immersion booth. The Immersion booth will also be one of the select locations where CTIA attendees can pick up their ticket for AT&T’s Developer Man Interactive Mobile Adventure, taking place on Tuesday, May 8th at 5:45PM. Participants in the mobile adventure will receive a Developer Man t-shirt and a chance to win $100 in Amazon Cash for each member of the winning adventure team.
