PISCATAWAY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--IEEE Spectrum was one of several leading publications honored with a 2012 National Magazine Award for achieving excellence in the magazine industry. IEEE Spectrum was selected as the winner of the “General Excellence Among Thought Leader Magazines” category which honors small-circulation, general-interest magazines, as well as literary, scholarly, and professional publications. Other 2012 winners included TIME Magazine, for magazine of the year, and Bloomberg BusinessWeek, for the general excellence in print category.
This is just the latest award that IEEE Spectrum has received for its editorial coverage. In March, IEEE Spectrum was honored with two 2012 Jesse H. Neal Awards, for Best News Coverage for a report on the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan, and Best Blog (Automaton).
Established in 1966, the National Magazine Awards honor print and digital magazines that consistently demonstrate superior execution of editorial objectives, innovative techniques, noteworthy journalistic enterprise and imaginative art direction. The awards are sponsored by the American Society of Magazine Editors in association with the Columbia University School of Journalism.
This year, nearly 270 publications submitted over 1,800 entries. IEEE Spectrum was selected over four other nominees in the “General Excellence Among Thought Leader Magazines” category – The American Scholar, Aperture, The New Republic, and Virginia Quarterly Review.
