REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Openwave Mobility Inc., a category leader in video optimization and dynamic data plan management for the mobile telecommunications industry, announced today the finalization of its acquisition by Marlin Equity Partners. The company will operate as a new privately held company and will be headed by John Giere as its chief executive officer. Giere most recently held the position of senior vice president and general manager of the Mediation Business Unit for Openwave Systems (now known as Unwired Planet).

Giere has over 20 years of wireless industry management experience in sales, product management, marketing and business development. Prior to his role as CEO of Openwave Mobility, Giere served as GM of the Openwave Mediation Business Unit for Openwave Systems, and held other executive positions as well. Prior to joining Openwave Systems, he served as CMO of Alcatel Lucent and CMO of Lucent Technologies. Prior to joining Lucent in 2003, Giere worked at Ericsson in strategic marketing and business development. In his last position, Giere was Vice President for New Business Development 3G wireless systems. Giere currently serves on the Board of Sonim Technologies. He holds a MBA from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgetown University.
