MOSCOW & NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Luxoft, a member of IBS Group and a leading global provider of advanced application and product development services, today at the 6th GENIVI All Member Meeting Conference, unveiled its latest innovation in the automotive sector, the iviLink connectivity platform. iviLink enables seamless connectivity between mobile devices, such as Android and iOS-based smartphones and tablet PCs and vehicle infotainment systems including head units, radio modules, rear seat entertainment and more. As a result, iviLink delivers a secure, OEM-controlled, two-way integration for multi-media content sharing.
iviLink enhances the automotive connectivity experience in a number of ways. Two-way app integration between the car and mobile devices allows the drivers and passengers to easily use their favorite iviLink enabled apps from Android or Apple iOS-based mobile devices with the car’s head unit or rear-seat screens. The in-car remote control feature enables passengers to manage the vehicle’s climate controls and car media with the help of a mobile device. Using iviLink, mobile devices can serve as head unit’s touch-screens for cars with no navigation screens. Front and rear seat passengers can swap content while riding.
“We developed iviLink in response to the unmet need within the automotive infotainment space,” said Vasiliy Suvorov, VP Technology Strategy, Luxoft. “We knew that a successful solution required detailed knowledge in two areas: mobile platforms technology and automotive infotainment systems requirements and technology.
“As a result, we wanted to deliver a platform that provided automotive OEMs with the ability to create and adapt mobile applications for in-car use quickly and cost-effectively. iviLink provides a unique infotainment experience for customers of each OEM’s through dedicated apps available from this OEM only. The connectivity to a variety of external devices is extremely appealing to consumers, on the one hand, and to OEM’s on the other, as it enhances end user experience and has a viable potential to increase loyalty to OEM’s brand.”
The iviLink connectivity platform was designed to benefit automotive OEMs and top-tier suppliers, as well as app developers and mobile device manufacturers. iviLink provides a competitive advantage by extending multimedia and connectivity functions to current and future IVI systems. In addition, iviLink provides a safe and easy way to timely upgrade IVI software without critical impact or risks to the entire system.
“We realize that OEMs and suppliers consider research and development (R&D) efforts of utmost importance, however, those often require significant investments in time and money,” added Suvorov. “iviLink serves as a flexible platform to design, test and deploy solutions that extend mobile capabilities of the vehicle without significant human capital or financial commitments. Using iviLink automotive OEMs can create a variety of their own apps as well as build an ecosystem of third-party app developers. This will create potential for new revenue streams for auto manufacturers from apps markets tailored to specific car brands, similar in concept to iTune Store® and Google PlayTM. Lastly, iviLink helps mobile app developers and mobile device manufacturers extend their influence on entirely new audience - the automotive market.”
The GENIVI-ready iviLink is compatible with multiple operating systems (Android, iOS, and Linux) and operates over numerous serial links (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB, DLNA, and MirrorLink). iviLink is available for evaluation as a software development kit (SDK), giving developers the tools needed to create custom automotive and mobile applications with ease. The open source SDK will be available to download at no cost at www.ivilink.net. To learn more about other Luxoft’s automotive offerings, please visit http://www.luxoft.com/automotive.
