SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ebates.com, the pioneer and leader in online cash back shopping, today announced findings from its Mother’s Day survey and found what men want to give the mom in their life may not necessarily be what women really want.
The national survey conducted online by Harris Interactive on behalf of Ebates in April 2012 among 2,215 adults discovered that the number one present American men think moms want for Mother’s Day is flowers (72%). However, the number one gift moms* actually want is a spa day (48%).
Flowers came in second among moms (38%), followed by jewelry (36%), and then a smartphone or tablet (30%). Flowers topped the list of what men thought moms wanted most for Mother’s Day, followed by jewelry, a spa day, and candy.

“We know that Mother’s Day is an important time for so many families, and Ebates wants to help ensure moms get what they really want this year,” says Ebates CEO, Kevin H. Johnson. "We know how tough it can be for shoppers to decide what gift to give and this is our way of pointing dads and kids in the right direction and save them money too. We offer cash back on all the top gifts: spa treatments, flowers, jewelry, and a wide range of tablets and smartphones.”
The survey also found 75% of Americans plan on shopping for someone this Mother’s Day. Of those, when asked how much they would spend on Mother’s Day gifts this year compared to last year, 21% indicated they will spend more. 25% of men said they are going to spend more on Mother’s Day versus 17% of women. Younger adults will also spend the most for Mother’s Day. 35% of Americans between the ages of 18-34 will spend more than last year on Mother’s Day - higher than any other age group.
Ebates looked into which U.S. state spent the most on mom, and 2011 sales data indicates it’s California. Last year, shoppers in the golden state spent an average of $100 dollars per transaction during the Mother’s Day promotion. Ebates shopping data from 2010 indicated online shoppers in Oregon spent the most on moms.
From April 23 to May 13, Mother’s Day shoppers can receive up to 24% cash back on select retailers via Ebates. For more details on specific retailers participating in the special Mother’s Day offer, visit Ebates.com.
