Wells Fargo Encourages Customers to Go Paperless, Invests in Tree Recovery Campaigns

Arbor Day Foundation partnership results in planting of 50,000 trees in California’s Six Rivers National Forest, distribution of tree seedlings in Joplin, Missouri

SAN FRANCISCO--()--In support of Earth Day, Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC) announced the start of the Online Statements Sweepstakes to encourage customers to switch to paperless statements for eligible accounts. Customers have the chance to win $25,000 or one of 20 $1,000 prizes. In addition to the sweepstakes, Wells Fargo, in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, is planting 50,000 trees at California’s Six Rivers National Forest and distributing tree seedlings to residents in Joplin, Missouri.

“In appreciation of customers who choose paperless banking options whenever possible, we’re pleased to support the planting of trees, especially in areas of need,” said Martha Smolen, senior vice president at Wells Fargo Internet Services Group. “The trees planted at Six Rivers National Forest are expected to contribute to an improved ecosystem in the forest for years to come.” Six Rivers National Forest extends 140 miles south from the Oregon-California boarder, crossing through or near the Smith, Klamath, Eel, Trinity, Van Duzen and Mad rivers.

Also, Wells Fargo is a partner in the Foundation's Joplin Tree Recovery Campaign, to help the people of Joplin, Missouri, restore the community trees lost due to last year’s devastating tornado. The Foundation and Wells Fargo volunteers will distribute tree seedlings to Joplin residents on Saturday, April 21, 2012.
