SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--With spring cleaning season in full swing, Lowe’s offers a new way to tidy up garages and finish DIY projects while helping the environment. Using MyLowes.com, customers can better estimate project materials and access information to reduce waste and recycle unwanted items like paint or pesticides.
Lowe’s partnered with Earth911, Inc., host of the nation’s largest and most accurate recycling directory, to incorporate the Earth911 Recycling Locator on MyLowes.com.
More than five million DIYers have made home improvement simple with MyLowe’s, an integrated online tool that allows consumers to track purchase history with a MyLowe's card, get organized with Folders & Lists, stay on top of seasonal needs with Reminders, and make managing the home easier with Home Profile.
The Recycling Locator is a powerful search feature that lets users search for local recycling information on a number of common materials that DIYers frequently collect. MyLowe’s incorporated the Recycling Locator into its online home improvement portal to encourage customers to divert used or unwanted items from landfills — and see how easy it can be to recycle.
“Efficient home management is sustainable home management,” said Michael Chenard, director corporate sustainability. “By wasting less and recycling more often, MyLowes.com users can save money, reduce pollution, and reduce their environmental footprint.”
MyLowes.com users can already save by buying the right amount of supplies through features such as the paint estimator and upkeep reminders for various parts of their home. The MyLowe’s tool helps customers make smarter purchases to maintain their home, which means fewer replacements down the line. Now users will also be able to easily locate where and how to recycle or properly dispose of materials they no longer need, such as:
- Latex paint
- Oil-based paint
- Aerosols
- Varnishes, lacquers, thinners, and strippers
- Pesticides
- Fertilizers
- Plastic trays and pots (for garden items)
- Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs)
- Rechargeable batteries
“Helping to increase recycling rates is one way Lowe’s and our customers are fulfilling our mission to ‘Never Stop Improving’ ourselves and our communities,” Chenard said.
“Lowe’s is already doing an amazing job by selling more products that are eco-friendly and providing easy recycling access within its more than 1,745 stores,” said Earth911 President Corey Lambrecht. “Smart retailers like Lowe’s know that it’s not just about what you sell, but what happens to those products at the end of their usable life, and this additional commitment to their end-of-life management is a bold step in increasing overall recycling rates.”
Earth911 prides itself in providing accurate information to consumers by utilizing a team of experts to audit and update its directory daily by hand. It also works closely with municipalities, retailers, individual recyclers, and more to provide comprehensive, accurate recycling options.
