ANGEL FIRE, N.M.--()--Angel Fire Resort, looking to cement its reputation as one of the best mountain biking destinations in the Rockies, has announced aggressive plans to grow its size and audience this summer. The Angel Fire Bike Park added over eleven miles of lift-accessible trails last season. That was only the beginning, however, as the park staff has mapped out close to twenty miles of new trails for expansion. They intend to break ground on these new trails starting May 1st. The total of 60 miles of trails open by the end of summer 2012 is a 100% increase in riding terrain from just over a year ago.

“No other bike destination in the Rockies is doing what we’re doing right now,” said Hogan Koesis, director of the Angel Fire Bike Park. “We have the incredible benefits of widely varying terrain, a privately owned mountain on which to develop a trail network, a long season to build and the full support of our resort ownership. It’s hard to rest a day with that opportunity.”

While the mountain has long offered some of the best expert trails, the resort has worked hard to improve and expand the beginner and intermediate trails, so those new to riding can hone their skills in a safe and controlled environment. This season Angel Fire Resort is offering more for families and younger riders who have never mountain biked, including more smaller-sized bikes in the rental fleet, base area skill centers, bike clinics and multi-day camps.

“We are dedicated to creating the best experience and terrain for every level, from the novice to the expert,” explains Hogan Koesis. “When you think of your bucket list of mountain biking spots we want every rider to add Angel Fire to the top. We’re creating the best playground for people to come out and learn everything they can about this sport.”

The 60 miles trail network does not include the great off-mountain trails in the village of Angel Fire and surrounding Kit Carson National Forest. Options off the mountain include the 23-mile South Boundary Trail, which begins just south of Angel Fire and ends in Taos, NM. The South Boundary Trail, deemed by many to be a “can’t miss” epic ride, features some of the best high-altitude single-track anywhere in the United States. These off-mountain trails give reason to plan extended stays in Angel Fire to experience all the area offers for fat tire enthusiasts.

Conveniently, Angel Fire boasts one of the longest seasons in the country with trails open from May 24 – October 14. Along with the revamped terrain the resort is offering deep discounts on passes and lodging packages, creating the most affordable destination mountain biking in the country.

Whether it’s easily cruising down one of the new XC trails or taking on one of the technical root sections, drops or jumps riders can try something new on every decent. At an altitude of 10,600 feet bikers will have access to one of the largest lift-access trail networks in North America. Special discounted prices this season include:

  • Single-day Lift Pass $26
  • The Gravity Pass $229 ($199 through April 30)– a season pass that offers unlimited chairlift rides from March – October, and three free days at Trestle Bike Park in Winter Park, CO.
  • Stay & Ride Package – as low as $59 per person, per night. Includes lodging at the slopeside Lodge at Angel Fire Resort and a single-day lift pass.
