SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--With anticipation running high for their new album “The Money Store” and a top-billing at Coachella today and next weekend, Death Grips has released an exclusive video and audio bundle with BitTorrent, targeted squarely at the 150 million young, digitally-connected users of the software.
Partnering with San Francisco-based BitTorrent, Inc., Death Grips compiled a unique download bundle including the world-premiere of the video for the new single “I’ve Seen Footage,” plus four additional videos and MP3s (“Get Got,” “The Fever (Aye Aye),” “Blackjack,” and a “Lost Boys” drum cam live video) from the new album. Anyone with a BitTorrent or µTorrent software client can immediately download the exclusive bundle here.
“BitTorrent has over 150 million young, hyper-connected fans using their software. Those are people we want to reach,” said Deborah Klein, manager of Death Grips. “Death Grips has a long history of distributing music directly to their fans, and BitTorrent is an innovative way to preview the album and get the word out to a massive audience in advance of album sales.”
“Working with Death Grips made so much sense,” said Matt Mason, executive director of marketing at BitTorrent. “Everything they do is part of a bigger story – they produce great music, but also amazing videos and artwork. We’re the only platform where an act like that can release all their media in one bundle – direct to their audience. As a technology company, we’re committed to working with the most forward–thinking artists, labels and studios out there to help them develop new ways to create, connect with fans and drive revenue,” Mason continued. “We have one of the largest user bases in Internet history, who are passionate about the media they consume. BitTorrent is the ecosystem where the innovations that matter will happen, and we’re thrilled to be working with Death Grips.”
BitTorrent will promote the bundle on the company’s two main Web properties (www.bittorrent.com and www.utorrent.com), via advertising to new users, and by offering the bundle directly in the two software clients. The promotion is designed to offer Death Grips fans a special preview for the new album using the fastest download technology available, engage new global fans, and help facilitate pre-sales of the album “The Money Store” on sale April 24th via Epic Records.
BitTorrent will also be hosting an exclusive Twitter interview with the Death Grips trio today at 2 p.m. PST. Fans are encouraged to follow both Death Grips (@DeathGripz) and BitTorrent (@BitTorrent) or track the designated hashtag #bit and submit questions via Twitter to the band.
Since BitTorrent first launched its Artist Spotlight program in August of 2010, the company has experimented with various ways to help artists build an audience and connect with the company’s 150 million fans around the world. Today, those experiments have matured into full-fledged promotions and successful case studies for bands like Pretty Lights, Sick of Sarah, and Gods Robots; films such as The Tunnel, Pioneer One, Lonely Place for Dying, and Zenith, plus other content partnerships with TED, Khan Academy and many others.
