WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Disabled Veterans National Foundation (www.dvnf.org), a non-profit veterans service organization that focuses on helping men and women who serve and return home wounded or sick after defending our safety and our freedom, is sending $60,772 worth of aid to veterans and their families who were affected in the March 2nd tornados that hit Southern Indiana and surrounding states. The deadly storms packed winds of 170 mph.
One story that gripped the nation was the amazing story of 15-month old Angel Babcock of Salem, IN, who was lifted by the storm for nearly ten miles in the air before being dropped in a field. Angel clung to life for two days before dying from her injuries on March 5th. Her entire family was lost in the storm.
The DVNF shipment to the American Legion in Salem, IN will be delivered next week (www.legion.org).
This DVNF truckload to the American Legion in Salem includes: blankets, food, Gatorade coolers, luggage and personal care products. Many Veterans and their loved ones were injured or negatively affected by these storms.
“We know these deadly tornados destroyed so many families, their homes and displaced entire communities,” said Raegan Rivers, Chief Administrative Officer of DVNF. “Many of these victims were Veterans and we want them to know help is on the way. These men and women have already given so much to their country and we are sad that Mother Nature has meant so much hardship for the people of Southern Indiana.”
The American Legion in Salem, IN was established in 1997. Relief efforts are being coordinated at the American Legion which is helping victims of the tornados.
DVNF also provides other grants including Organizational Grants to groups who share the same goals as DVNF such as helping homeless and low income Veterans and their families.
