KFAR SABA, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--N-trig providers of the DuoSense® pen and multi-touch user interface, today announced that it is working together with Birth2Work CEO Elane V. Scott, to raise awareness about the importance of user interaction in early education tablet computing. Ms. V. Scott and N-trig will work to increase understanding about the issues and opportunities that confront schools, teachers and students as they seek to integrate these devices into early learning curriculums.
Schools are increasingly using mobile computing devices like tablets and slates as educational tools in their curriculums. These devices, however, typically offer a passive computing experience – whereas recent scientific evidence shows that active use of the hands plays an important role in early learning and brain development. For example, an Indiana University study revealed that neural activity in the brain was far more enhanced and “adult-like” in children who practiced writing letters with full hand engagement than those who simply looked at them.
“As we have believed for decades and is now being proven, the hand, when used for writing or other creative tasks, drives whole brain development and encourages dynamic, proactive engagement and true learning,” said Ms. Scott. “N-trig’s DuoSense solution allows the child to use his/her fingers and hand to manipulate the pen in a variety of ways, actually affecting the brain and stirring a broad connection of synapses due to the relationship between the hand, eye and arm.”
N-trig’s DuoSense combined pen and multi-touch solution enables both creative work and interactive play in a mobile computing environment. The intuitive, easy-to-use pen expands the horizon of mobile computing for a truly Hands-on® experience, allowing students to draw and sketch, take notes with handwriting recognition, and do homework directly on their e-textbooks.
“Studies have shown that young children should be encouraged to use their hands as a tool for self-expression,” said Rick Seger, president of N-trig. “By empowering children to write, draw, scribble and paint directly onto their school tablets, solutions such as DuoSense help to convert the education experience from mere content consumption to real creativity, and productivity.”
DuoSense supports all Windows and Android-based tablets and convertibles, and will be compatible with the Windows 8 operating system.
