DrupalCon Draws Thousands to Denver This Week to Learn and Collaborate on One of Largest Open Source Projects

Collaborative Publishing for Every Device” is the focus at the 8th annual conference as the Drupal open source content management platform increases in popularity

DENVER--()--The Drupal Association, hosts of the biannual DrupalCon conference, today announced the opening of its North American DrupalCon in Denver, CO with over 3,000 web site designers, developers, site architects and IT Managers in attendance. Drupal is an open source content management platform which powers millions of websites and applications. It’s built, used, and supported by a very active community of people from around the world, and that community comes together for DrupalCon. The theme of DrupalCon Denver, Collaborative Publishing for Every Device is the subject of sessions and keynotes over three conference days. Keynotes include the founder of Drupal, the leader of the Mozilla Project, and an expert on designing for mobile.

The Drupal community has grown to over 16,000 registered developers and nearly 800,000 members around the world in 228 countries, speaking 181 languages all using Drupal.org. The latest version of the Drupal project, Drupal 7, released just one year ago, had such a strong adoption rate that it is now the most used version of Drupal. The Drupal project now has over 15,000 modules and 4,000 code changes per week. Millions of websites and software applications, from personal blogs to the largest enterprise applications, including Twitter, eBay, Whitehouse.gov, NASA and universities around the world rely on Drupal because of its pace innovation and supportive community.

DrupalCon Keynotes

DrupalCon Denver will feature keynotes by open source and mobile industry visionaries, including Dries Buytaert, speaking on Tuesday, March 20 at 9am MT, the founder of the Drupal project on the future of Drupal, including Drupal 8 and mobile; Mitchell Baker, speaking on Wednesday, March 21 at 9am MT, the leader of the Mozilla Project and a pioneer in open source who is passionate about its’ success; Luke Wroblewski, speaking on Thursday, March 22 at 9am MT, a recognized leader in digital product design, Luke will dig into the three key reasons to consider mobile first.

DrupalCon sessions will center around the future of the Drupal project through eight session tracks from Nonprofit, Government and Education, to Design and User Experience and Business and Strategy. There will be many case studies around adoption and enthusiasm for Drupal, from Martha Stewart.com, to the University of Colorado, how Drupal is transforming government, how Zagat.com went from .NET to Drupal, and even a session on using Drupal in the Emergency Room to improve patient experience.

A co-located event for those evaluating Drupal called Drupal Means Business, is on Thursday, March 22 from 9am-3pm. It will include a full day of business-focused content and is ideal for colleges, universities, businesses, government agencies who are not as familiar with Drupal, or are, but would like to know more.

Code sprints will take place throughout the week on various topics, with Friday being a full day code sprint.
