MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--MOM Brands was awarded the Silver Plate Award by the Minnesota Grocers Association (MGA) today for its support of the 2011 “Minnesota’s Own” campaign and display contest. The contest is part of a larger program that raises awareness about local hunger relief and has provided more than 5.8 million meals to Minnesota families through food drives and donations.

We’re pleased to continue our partnership with the MGA and bring awareness to statewide hunger issues.”
MOM Brands was selected from more than 340 entries to receive the Silver Plate Award for Best Single Creative Display for its “Bag Hunger” campaign at Jerry’s Foods in Edina, MN. MOM Brands and Jerry’s Foods displayed an oversized grocery bag abundant with “bagged” ready-to-eat Malt-O-Meal brand cereals, which attracted customers at the entrance of the store. The campaign reflected MOM Brands’ support for hunger relief programs, as well as its commitment to sustainability by packaging its products in bags instead of the less efficient bag-and-box method.
The MGA will present the Silver Plate Award to MOM Brands today at Jerry's in Edina, the location of the company’s winning display. Each award winner also receives $1,000 to donate to the charity of its choice; MOM Brands will make its donation to its longtime food bank partner, Second Harvest Heartland.
“Minnesota’s Own” brought together more than 220 MGA retail members, 15 vendor partners and community food banks to fill local food shelves across the state. Participating stores and vendor locations offered multiple opportunities for consumers to contribute to the campaign.
