INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Brackets for Good, an Indianapolis-based charitable organization providing web-based fundraising support for non-profits at no cost, announces the tip off to its first web-raising tournament on March 5, 2012, to coincide with the seasonal buzz of College Basketball Tournaments. The online event will support non-profits that serve Indiana’s youth with a focus on education.
Brackets for Good uses an online bracket system to help raise money for Indianapolis nonprofits. Teams – or participating non-profits – are matched up to “play” one another – earning points when people visit the site and donate. One dollar is worth one point and after each round the winning team advances to the next round. All participants keep 100 percent of the donations they receive and the overall winner receives an additional grand prize at the completion of the bracket championship.
Its first field includes local non-profits Indianapolis School on Wheels, YMCA Camp Tecumseh, Starfish Initiative, Youth Mentoring Initiative, Washington Township Schools Foundation, Shepherd Community Center, Orr Fellowship and Indiana Uploaded. The field participants will receive marketing support from Brackets for Good through social media and email. The first tournament winner receives a grand prize donation of $5,000 – in addition to all individual donations – courtesy of title sponsor Bluefish Wireless, an Indianapolis-based company that helps businesses design, deploy and manage wireless programs.
“After the last two Men’s College Basketball Tournaments in which Butler made the final game, we felt there had to be a way to turn the positive energy and hype surrounding the tournament into a greater good,” said Matt McIntyre, co-founder of Brackets for Good. “The concept of Brackets for Good is simple and completely focuses on helping local charities ‘webraise.’”
Brackets for Good launched in November 2011 and was co-founded by Matt McIntyre, Matt Duncan and David Cornelius, all graduates of Indiana universities (Indiana University, Butler University and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology). Maureen Martz, Scott Gotshall and Rachel Gotshall joined Brackets for Good as volunteer directors and share in the responsibilities.
“Our goal is to attract a new generation of supporters by making the act of donating more like playing a game,” said Matt Duncan, co-founder of Brackets for Good. “It’s a great way for charities to play into the bracket buzz in March and grow their lists of supporters, volunteers and donors.”
