BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aceso (Uh-kesso), provider of interactive patient solutions for healthcare, is proud to announce the installation of its UpCare™ Technology within the newly opened Issaquah campus of Swedish Medical Center. Made up of five hospital campuses and many other services, Swedish is the largest non-profit health provider in the Greater Seattle area.
Aceso delivers condition-specific diagnostic and treatment information via television screens to the bedside of every admitted patient at Swedish/Issaquah. Integration with Epic, the nation’s leading electronic health record provider, enables Aceso’s UpCare™ solution to provide a unique user experience for each patient which is an industry first.
In addition, Aceso has integrated with Computrition, the nation’s premier foodservice software provider, enabling patients to order meals that are compliant with their diet orders and restrictions. UpCare™ flexes meal ordering choices for patients based upon information received from Epic and Computrition empowering patients to make the right decisions about their choice in food. Family members and guests also have the ability to order meals from the same system. These services are available in addition to top-tier entertainment, retail services available in the hospital and other hospital services right from their bedside.
“Aceso’s UpCare™ system is the ideal fit for Swedish’s Issaquah campus as we aim to provide patients with the most compassionate hospital experience available,” said Chuck Salmon, vice president of operations at Swedish/Issaquah. “Providing clinical information to patients and their families has proven to play a vital role in the healing process. We feel Aceso’s UpCare™ enables us to achieve the goals of improved patient health and higher standards of care.”
How It Works
An industry first: Aceso UpCare™ services – healthcare education, food services, entertainment, etc. – are all delivered from a single computer (a server) that is located in a data center several miles from the Issaquah facility (called a “head end”). The head end in this instance is connected to buildings within the Swedish/Issaquah campus only. However the services can easily be extended to other campuses using the same data center, server and hospital network.
Inside each campus building, televisions are connected to Aceso UpCare™ services over Swedish’s Internet Protocol (IP) network. Every patient is provided with a simple remote control device, similar to a home television remote control, which lets them navigate the entire system with a push of a button. Patients are offered a variety of healthcare information by their physicians based on the patient’s unique condition, diagnosis and treatment regimen. Using the same controller, patients can explore the many other entertainment and food services available to them.
Through its partnership with Seattle-based The Window Channel, Aceso delivers ambient scenic images to the screen, bringing a calming atmosphere to the patient's room, through high-definition technology. UpCare™’s innovative features demonstrate Aceso's dedication to providing users with the highest-quality experience during their hospital visit.
“Aceso’s technology offers broad integration capabilities with other services, such as Electronic Health Records, that we feel is vital for long-term ROI. As new services become available, we want the ability to offer them with minimal investment. The forward-thinking design of UpCare™ was one of the many considerations for choosing Aceso as our Interactive Patient Service provider,” said Cathy Johnson, chief technology officer for Swedish.
“Our long term strategy is to expand services beyond the Issaquah campus across the rest of our health system,” said Kevin Brown, chief strategy officer for Swedish. “Feedback from patients and clinical outcome data will guide our progress.”
“Swedish/Issaquah is a world-class organization that has set a new standard for a patient’s experience,” said Geoff Fiedler, Aceso co-founder and president, “We look forward to serving Swedish patients and their families on their path toward healthy outcomes.”
