LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dr. John Paglia of Newbury Park, lead researcher for the Pepperdine Private Capital Markets Project (http://bschool.pepperdine.edu/privatecapital) and an associate professor of finance at the Graziadio School of Business and Management, was awarded the third annual Middle Market Thought Leader Award. The recognition honors “individuals who have made a meaningful contribution to middle market M&A” and was given by the Alliance of Merger & Acquisition Advisors (R) (AM&AA), the leading association and credentialing body for middle market M&A professionals in partnership with Grant Thornton LLP, one of the six global audit, tax and advisory organizations.
Paglia tied for the award with investment banker Robert Slee, author of the text Private Capital Markets, who collaborated with Dr. Paglia in 2007 on a model to map the movements of both lenders and businesses that comprise the ever-changing private capital market eco-system.
This model became the Pepperdine Private Capital Markets Project, the first simultaneous, comprehensive, and on-going investigation of the major private capital market segments. The research has resulted in 11 reports since its inception in 2009. Most recently, collaborating in part on surveys with Dun and Bradstreet Credibility Corp., Paglia issued a 2012 U.S. Economic Forecast, State of Small Business Report, Capital Markets Report and California State of Small Business Supplement.
The Middle Market Thought Leader Award was instituted by the AM&AA to recognize those in the M&A community that create and advocate ideas that add value to the industry, thereby adding value to the AM&AA's education and credentialing programs, such as the Certified Merger & Acquisitions’ Advisor (CM&AA) credential. The Middle Market Thought Leader of the Year 2012 was announced at a luncheon on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, during the AM&AA Winter Conference in Las Vegas, for which Grant Thornton was the premier sponsor.
Dr. Paglia, a former Julian Virtue and Denney Professorship recipient, has over 10 years of university teaching experience in finance, performs business valuations for privately-held companies, and has testified as an expert on economic damage and valuation matters.
His work on the Pepperdine Private Capital Markets Project has resulted in nearly 30,000 report downloads in more than 70 countries and has earned him the Graziadio School of Business and Management 2011 George Award, which is given to the a faculty member annually who best leverages the business community to make a difference in the classroom, and first annual Tom Hopkins Award For Excellence in M&A from the Association for Corporate Growth 101 Corridor Chapter, recognizing his research for its contribution to the ability of companies in West San Fernando Valley, Ventura County and Santa Barbara areas to make key strategic decisions about their near-term and long-range growth plans.
His private capital markets research has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, CNBC, USA Today, and the New York Times, has been published in a number of journals and has been presented at domestic and international conferences. Dr. Paglia holds a PhD in finance, an MBA, a BS in finance, and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.
