SHENZHEN, China--(BUSINESS WIRE)--BYD Auto’s first independently designed SUV, the S6, has been named China’s “SUV of the Year” according to the Annual Ranking of Chinese Automobiles – the highest honor in the China Automotive Industry. It also has become the best selling China domestic SUV in sales volume by reaching 15,000 units in December. This follows the China Automobile Technology Research Center’s December 2011 announcement of C-NCAP crash-testing impact scores, awarding the BYD S6 the highest five-star safety rating for an SUV. This designation makes the S6 the first Chinese domestic SUV model with a five-star safety rating. In C-NCAP tests, the BYD S6 out-performed other brands in every aspect of body structure, design and safety device validation.
Consumers had already given the S6 their stamp of approval. In December, 2011, monthly sales of the BYD S6 surpassed 15,000 units, while the accumulated sales volume reached 60,198 units from April to December (excluding China export volumes). Besides the excellent safety rating, BYD asserts that the high quality performance and advanced electronics system of the S6 are the reasons for the car’s popularity. BYD cooperated with Daimler to improve every aspect of their automotive design and manufacturing quality with great attention to every detail of design, styling, testing and manufacturing of the S6. The overall quality and workmanship of the S6 is meeting the high standard of many Joint-Venture brands. With its dynamic configurations, high-tech features and all-embracing active and passive safety features, the S6 is striking the right chord with the urban Chinese consumer.
