Lexia Reading Wins Prestigious Awards from District Administration, eSchool News and EdTech Digest

Highly Regarded Reading Software’s Technology Delivers Innovative, Targeted Instruction to Improve Student Reading Proficiency

BOSTON--()--Lexia Learning Systems®, one of the nation’s most highly regarded providers of reading software announced today that its Lexia Reading® software program was recently honored with three significant awards, demonstrating the company’s profound impact on changing the future of reading education.

In November, EdTech Digest, sponsor of the 2011 EdTech Digest awards, honored Lexia Reading as a “Cool Tool” for outstanding contributions in transforming education through technology. In December, the editors of District Administration magazine named Lexia Reading as one of the Readers’ Choice Top 100 Products for the second year in a row. This prestigious award is given annually to companies that provide K–12 education technologically significant solutions and that positively impact classrooms, schools and districts. And just last week, the proven software was one of a small group of products selected by educators in the eSchool News 2012 Readers' Choice awards program.

“The awards from District Administration and eSchool News mean so much to us because they come from the teachers and administrators who work tirelessly everyday to make our schools and students shine,” said Nick Gaehde, CEO of Lexia Learning. “We are delighted to learn that educators value Lexia Reading as an essential component of reading instruction that is truly having an impact on student performance.”

As one of the nation’s top reading software programs, Lexia Reading’s distinctive and cost-effective technology offers a scalable, research-proven approach. It provides educators norm-referenced measures that prioritize students who are the most at-risk, and recommends teacher-led, direct skill instruction to address specific skill gaps. As students work independently on Lexia Reading, they receive explicit, systematic and structured practice on foundational reading skills. Each of the age-appropriate, skill-specific activities conforms to federal guidelines and is aligned to Common Core State Standards. The fun, engaging software delivers scaffolded practice, advancing students to higher levels as they demonstrate proficiency.

In addition to supporting foundational skills development, the program reduces schools’ dependence on traditional testing methods, and helps improve each student’s performance on grade-level assessments. Lexia Reading’s Assessment Without Testing™ provides real-time data on students’ specific skill gaps, as well as norm-referenced predictions of each student’s percent chance of reaching the end-of-year benchmark. The program then automatically identifies and prioritizes students for small group or individual instruction, providing educators with targeted strategies and structured lesson plans to help each student improve performance on grade-level assessments. This compilation of student performance data is done without administering a test, allowing schools to spend less time testing and reclaim weeks of instructional time.

The first annual EdTech Digest Awards Program was established to recognize the best and brightest people and transformative technology products and services in education.

“In a crowded field of entries, it’s exciting to acknowledge those companies and products making the biggest difference in K–12 education today,” said Victor Rivero, editor-in-chief of EdTech Digest. “The products, services and people that comprised the list of winners and finalists are innovative, respected and outstanding cool tools, leaders and trendsetters, all dedicated to moving education forward into the 21st century, and all are to be commended.”

The winners of District Administration’s Readers’ Choice Top 100 Products of 2011 were selected by the editors of District Administration from hundreds of nominations submitted by readers, including school superintendents and district-level directors in districts across the United States. The winning products were determined by the quantity of nominations received per product, as well as an evaluation of product quality based upon readers’ nominations and explanations. The District Administration Readers’ Choice Top 100 Products awards program provides senior district leaders with the unique opportunity to learn what products their colleagues around the country are using and how these products contribute to the success of their districts. There were a record number of nominations this year.

The ever-popular eSchool News Readers’ Choice Awards series recognizes the ed-tech products and services the publication’s readers have deemed as key to their success. Nearly 1,400 readers responded and when nominating their favorite products, readers shared how they’re using these products to improve teaching, learning, or school administration—and to what effect. A special feature appeared in the January issue of eSchool News. A complete list can be found at http://www.eschoolnews.com/files/2012/01/RCA2012Final.pdf
