Avira Security Downloaded 16 Million Times from One Website

Wins Top 11 Downloads of 2011 Award from CNET

TETTNANG, Germany--()--Wrapping up an overall excellent year in terms of revenue and market share growth, IT security expert Avira announced today that its flagship Avira Free Antivirus software was downloaded 16,175,902 times from the CNET Download.com website, earning it a place on the Top 11 Downloads of 2011 list.

“CNET Download.com has been a strong partner for Avira, helping us to share our antivirus software around the world and particularly in the United States,” said Travis Witteveen, COO of Avira. “These downloads contributed to Avira becoming the number two largest antivirus software company in the world, as we announced earlier this month.”

The Top 11 Downloads of 2011 program recognizes the most popular downloads from CNET’s catalog of more than 800,000 products. The list is based on the number of user downloads from January 1, 2011 to December 12, 2011.

“Our Top Downloads of the Year program aims to honor the publishers who develop the excellent software that makes CNET Download.com possible, while also providing users with valuable insight and data about which programs were the most popular for the year,” said Peter Butler, Senior Content Manager at CNET Download.com. “With the addition of category awards, we have ten times more winners this year than 2010--we're excited to expand the program even further in the future."
