LONG BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--It’s the end of the Mayan 2012 calendar on Dec. 21, 2012, and Hotel Maya today kicked-off the “The Year To Go Mayan” yearlong sweepstakes featuring monthly hotel weekend giveaways, guest lectures, themed movies, a Mayan dinner show, and food and beverage promotions. A grand prizewinner will also be awarded an 8-day, 7-night, all-expenses-paid vacation to the heart of the Mayan Nation at the DoubleTree by Hilton Merida – Yucatan in Mexico.
Entries to the “The Year To Go Mayan” sweepstakes can be submitted on Hotel Maya’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/hotelmaya to include a picture featuring the guest living their life to the fullest with a placard or other object with the words “Hotel Maya” clearly visible.
Guests must first “Like” Hotel Maya’s Facebook page in order to submit an entry. The monthly winner will be based on the photo selected by Hotel Maya. Each monthly winner receives a weekend package at Hotel Maya featuring 2 nights, 3 days and includes breakfast. The first drawing is on Jan 21 and subsequent drawings occur each month on the same day.
One grand prizewinner will be selected for a weeklong, all-expenses-paid package on the Yucatan Peninsula featuring 8 days, 7 nights and includes roundtrip airfare originating from Los Angeles. Hotel Maya will post the top six monthly winners for its Facebook “Like” community to vote for the best “The Year To Go Mayan” photo. The grand prizewinner will be selected on Dec. 21, 2012.
“We respect the Mayan civilization and people and want our guests to ‘Go Mayan’ while visiting the property and appreciating the culture,” said Kristi Allen, General Manager at Hotel Maya – a Doubletree Hotel.
On Dec. 21, 2012, the Maya's “Long Count” calendar marks the end of a 5,126-year era. The Mayas predicted a final event that included a solar shift, a Venus transit and violent earthquakes.
Most scholars dismiss these cataclysmic theories. However, Hotel Maya is encouraging guests to live their life to the fullest with “The Year To Go Mayan” mantra. An “End of the World Party” will also be held on Dec. 21, 2012. Guests can follow an official Mayan 2012 countdown clock at http://www.hotelmayalongbeach.com.
