CADD®-Solis VIP Ambulatory Infusion System Launches in Additional European Markets

A multi-therapy, smart infusion system for home and hospital patients

ST. PAUL, Minn.--()--Smiths Medical, a leading global medical device manufacturer, announced today it launched the CADD®-Solis VIP ambulatory infusion system with CADD-Solis medication safety software in France, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands. The new system is already available in Canada, Australia, the UK, and the Middle East.

The CADD®-Solis VIP (variable infusion profile) system is a multi-therapy infusion platform that includes a Smart infusion pump, medication safety software, and dedicated medication cassette reservoirs that attach to the pump. The new system leverages the same software and hardware features of the Smart CADD®-Solis hospital pain management system that Smiths Medical introduced in 2008. However, the new CADD®-Solis VIP system was adapted to incorporate homecare-desired features for safety, ease of use, mobility, and reliability.

“Smart infusion devices have been widely adopted in hospitals as a means to help reduce the risk of medication delivery errors and improve efficiencies,” said Tommy Johns, Vice President Global Product Management. “Until now, however, Smart infusion systems have not been designed for home patients or the professionals who care for them. The new CADD®-Solis VIP system provides enhanced safety features and convenience for health care providers who want to provide optimal care for their infusion patients in either the home or hospital.”

The CADD®-Solis VIP system includes five delivery modes: Continuous, Intermittent, Taper, PCA and Step, which allow it to be used for a variety of therapies including TPN (Total Parenteral Nutrition), chemotherapy, hydration, pain management, and IVIG (Intravenous Immunoglobulin or when a blood product is administered intravenously) for adult and pediatric patients. The pump’s patient-focused user interface displays therapy information in an easy-to-understand format to help reduce training time, and the medication safety software allows clinicians to download therapy information directly from their PC computer into the pump and also view reports on patient data and infusion delivery history for quick and easy therapy assessment and continuous quality improvement.

The new CADD®-Solis VIP system will allow health care providers to have confidence in reliable infusion pump performance, the ability to send and receive accurate medication delivery information more efficiently, and to help protect their patients from medication errors.

The CADD®-Solis VIP system is currently under FDA review and is not available for sale in the U.S.A.
