STOCKHOLM--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Digital public services can be developed faster and with a higher quality if companies and citizens are involved in an early stage. Local government information should be easily accessible online, especially for companies developing new services. Stockholm, Sweden is an example of a city in the forefront of e-services, although the collaboration with companies and developers could be even deeper. This is presented in a new report on best practice for public e-services.
Online digital services, or e-services, can be a powerful and effective way for national and local governments to improve the service to citizens and businesses. Examples range from permit administration to application for nursing school. E-services can also stimulate in creating new businesses and business models. The report presents best practice and an action plan on 21 points for the local development.
“There must be a solid citizen focus in the development of public services. Municipalities should be accessible where people and companies find it most convenient, no matter when or where they are. This report is a good starting point for any public administration in continuing with the development of e-services.” says Staffan Ingvarsson, acting CEO, the City of Stockholm.
The basis for the report is the City of Stockholm's e-services initiative and interviews with government representatives, academics and established ICT industry players, as well as young entrepreneurs.
The 21 points action plan include concrete suggestions in areas of leadership and organization, user focus, data and technology, exchange of knowledge and information and communication. The report also suggests a higher development speed, improved possibilities to commercialize information and an increased dialogue with the industry.
